Orthodox church

Also known as the Eastern Orthodox or (incorrectly) the Greek Orthodox church, the chief form of Christianity and the official religion of in the Byzantine empire and in the Slavic lands it converted. After centuries of disputes, it broke from Rome in 1054. Like the Roman Catholic church, it was politically active and had reform movements and heresies, such as the Iconoclast controversy (762-843) and the Bogomils.
