This is the official name given to competition class canoes. Competition canoes are light, narrow, open-decked for a prescribed portion of their length. They must be symmetrical upon axis of the length, and have no steering mechanisms. The canoe is manned by one to four paddlers usually but not always from a kneeling position, using single or double bladed paddles, depending on the type of race that is being run.
