Weather modification experiment designed to involve two areas, only one of which is seeded at a time, with the area for seeding being randomly selected for each time period.
Industry:Weather
Water held in the smaller pores of a soil, generally at tensions greater than 60 cm of water.
Industry:Weather
Water incorporated into the pores of rocks at the time when the rocks were formed; it usually has high mineral content. The quantities of neither connate water nor magmatic water are appreciable in hydrometeorology; only meteoric water is considered. See also fossil water.
Industry:Weather
Utilizing only that portion of a dataset that satisfies a certain criterion. For example, in the boundary layer a convective thermal could be defined as a flow structure that has an upward velocity exceeding some value for some minimum time period. If the average value of all temperature measurements that satisfy the above criterion is calculated, the result would give the average temperature in thermal updrafts. Such data analysis procedures allow investigators to study flow structures such as coherent structures that exist in the atmosphere.
Industry:Weather
Use of printable characters in transmission to represent different conditions. See binary code.
Industry:Weather
Usually, the calendar year; occasionally, the 12-month period beginning 1 December.
Industry:Weather
Undesirable echoes on radar displays. For a weather radar, clutter usually refers to echoes from ground targets in the main lobe or sidelobes of the antenna pattern (ground clutter) but might also refer to apparent echoes caused by interference from other radar or radio sources. For tracking or navigational radars, echoes from precipitation may obscure the targets of interest and are called weather clutter. See cancellation ratio, clutter rejection.
Industry:Weather
Type and quantity of dissolved or suspended compounds in precipitation.
Industry:Weather
Two or more samples mixed together, in known proportions, to obtain an average value of a specified characteristic.

Twice the component of the earth's angular velocity about the local vertical, 2Ω sinφ, where Ω is the angular speed of the earth and φ is the latitude. Since the earth is in rigid rotation, the Coriolis parameter is equal to the component of the earth's vorticity about the local vertical. If the Coriolis parameter is denoted by f and the speed of a horizontally moving fluid parcel by V, then fV is the magnitude of the horizontal Coriolis force per unit mass on the parcel. See also Rossby parameter.
