Tidal

TIDAL is a subscription-based music streaming service that combines lossless audio and high definition music videos with curated editorial. The service has over 25 million tracks and 75,000 music videos.

TIDAL was launched in 2014 by Swedish public company Aspiro AB. It has distribution agreements with all of the three major labels, in addition to many indies. In the first quarter of 2015, the parent company Aspiro was acquired by Project Panther Ltd., which is owned by Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter.

As of March 2015, the service had approximately 550,000 paying users after being integrated with its sister service, WiMP.

TIDAL is currently owned by Jay-Z, and a variety of other music artists spanning multiple genres within their field. The slogan "turn the tide" was used by various artists on social media during the build up to the press conference relaunching the service. The idea of an artist-owned streaming platform was stated as to "restore the value to music by launching a service owned by artists." During the previously mentioned press conference, Shawn Carter himself, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Kanye West, Jack White, Arcade Fire, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Chris Martin, Alicia Keys, Calvin Harris, Daft Punk, deadmau5, Jason Aldean, J. Cole and Madonna were introduced to the stage as "the owners of TIDAL". Drake and other members of Coldplay were also said to part own the company.
